Martin Overhead Doors was founded in 1936 in Santa Ana, California by Leno Martin. Leno Martin also invents the first one piece overhead type garage door which soon became much more popularized than its counterpart which was the swinging garage door. They continued making doors in Santa Ana, California until World War Two started which limited access to wood and steel and so the company moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. Later, Leno Martin’s brother bought out the company due to Leno having some serious health issues and his brother switched the focus from one piece garage doors to sectional garage doors. In the 80’s, Martin Overhead Doors began manufacturing steel panel sectional doors and then began shipping internationally which expanded their company. In 1994, Martin Overhead Doors received the “E” award from the president of the United States for their excellence in exporting. Later in the 90’s, they invented a new safety system for the panel doors which became a safety issue for things getting smashed inside. This system was called FingerShield and eliminated a lot of injuries associated with garage doors. By 2006, Martin doors can be found in over 80 countries. They introduced new extruded aluminum doors with a new FingerShield section joint with a wide variety of models and options to choose from. In 2011, the California door was introduced into both the residential and the commercial sector with an extensive variety of colors and styles to choose from. In 2014, Martin Overhead Doors acquired new senior management and Scott Huntsman became the new Chief Executive Officer.
